About Us

Our Mission:  To build reciprocal relationships to land through conservation, recreation, and education.

Meetings: The board of directors meets on the second thursday of each month at 6 PM. The meetings are open to the public. While the weather is good, we try to meet in person, but sometimes we meet via Zoom. If you would like to attend, please contact info@3rlt.org or call (207) 358-9619.

Our Purpose:  To maintain, support and enhance the working landscape of farms and forest and such valued natural resources as lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands, historic sites, scenic places and wildlife habitat, in the inland municipalities of York County, Maine, by acquiring property in fee and conservation easements, and by engaging community support

Our three rivers are the Little Ossipee, the Salmon Falls, and the upper Mousam River. Our service area envelops Acton, Alfred, Lebanon, Shapleigh and Sanford/Springvale. We work together with other conservation groups and towns to help spread our message. Conservation does not mean keeping people out, it means bringing people in – please join us.

Three Rivers Land Trust was founded in 2000 by a small group concerned about the sale of thousands of acres in the area that were subsequently developed into house lots. Acres and acres of prime farmland and working forests were lost to our communities forever.  Since then Three Rivers has conserved around 2,200 acres of public and private lands with conservation easements, and now owns an additional 1,037 acres.

What this means is that working farms and forests are protected from development so that they can continue to serve as an economic and ecological benefit to us, and the public has places for free outdoor recreation. Throughout the year, the trust holds public events that showcase our trails, celebrate our rural heritage, and bring awareness to such issues as local agriculture, working landscapes, and equitable access to outdoor recreation. We also work to help educate the public about the importance of keeping some land undeveloped for the well-being of all by engaging in educational outreach.
