Farm Breakfast and Paint the Working Landscape

Friends, we are so excited to announce that the ever-popular Springvale Farm Walk will take place this year on Open Farm Day (Sunday, July 25), along with the land trust’s Farm Breakfast. We are also holding a new event this year – “Paint the Working Landscape” – in which local artists will have the opportunity to paint scenes from some of our local farms and then auction their work to help support the Sanford Community Forest project. Read below for the details on all of these events. We look forward to seeing you!

Springvale Farm Walk

The walk will take place from 9 AM to 1 PM. There will not be a shuttle this year, but two different loop walks with parking available at each. Here’s the map.

Paint the Working Landscape

Our communities are home to many amazing artists, and we are grateful to our local painters who will take time to paint some of the farms participating in the Springvale Farm Walk, and then auction their paintings to help support the land trust’s Sanford Community Forest project.

Painters will have the opportunity to paint at a participating farm between July 10 and 24, and the silent auction will take place at McDougal Orchards on Sunday, July 25, during the Springvale Farm Walk. Proceeds will be split between the artists and the land trust. Land trust members, or those intending to become members, can register here. For non-members there is a $10 registration fee to help the land trust cover costs: please click here for non-member registration.

Farm Breakfast

We will feature some new menu items this year, but as always we will use as much fresh Maine grown and produced products as possible. The breakfast will take place at McDougal Orchards from 8 to 9:30 AM, but will take place outdoors this year at picnic tables, to help keep everyone safe and comfortable. Breakfast will be $10.

The menu is in the planning stages, but here is what we are envisioning:

  • Sourdough waffles with local jam or maple butter
  • Veggie flan (summer squash, onions, eggs, mushrooms, greens)
  • Local sausage & veggie slaw
  • Farm Walk Succotash with garlic scape pesto & veggie sausage (a favorite for our vegan and gluten free friends)

If you’d like to volunteer, we’d love your help. Please get in touch with Ruth at ruth@3rlt.org or (207) 370-4191. Thank you!
