Three Rivers Land Trust is excited to bring back the Great American Rain Barrel Program for 2026. This community partnership helps local residents conserve water, reduce runoff, and support the health of our rivers, wetlands, and drinking water.
Recent drought conditions across Maine highlight the importance of simple, local solutions. According to the Maine Drought Task Force, all of Maine is currently experiencing at least moderate drought, with groundwater levels well below normal in many areas. Without strong recharge this spring, water supplies could remain stressed heading into the summer.
Rainwater harvesting is one of the easiest and most effective steps homeowners can take. A rain barrel collects water from your roof and stores it for later use, helping you care for gardens, landscaping, and outdoor spaces while reducing demand on wells and municipal water systems. Using rainwater also helps prevent runoff from carrying pollutants into local streams, ponds, and lakes.

The Great American Rain Barrel Company produces durable, food-grade barrels made from 100% repurposed materials. Each barrel is screened to prevent mosquitoes and designed to last for years with proper care. Barrels can also be easily linked together to increase storage.

Rain barrels are available for at a discounted price of $80–$89. Additional accessories are available for purchase.
